Vision for Children at Risk is pleased to be part of the East Side Thrives collective impact project announced on Dec. 17 by an enthusiastic crowd of young people, partner agencies and community leaders. Funded by a $500,000 Impact grant from Glaxo Smith Kline (GSK), the 18-month project will involve nine agencies working together in a collective impact framework called East Side Aligned.
They will carry out a variety of activities to build healthy futures for kids in East St. Louis in physical activity, healthy choices, academic success and youth leadership. Implementation partners include the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center, Greater East St. Louis Community Fund, Lessie Bates Davis Neighborhood House, Mt. Sinai Family Life Center, Christian Activity Center, Wyman and Nine Network of Public Media. VCR’s role will be to hold forums for the nonprofit community where knowledge learned from the project will be shared. The United Way of Greater St. Louis is the backbone organization and the Forum for Youth Investment is the evaluation partner. The St. Louis Community Foundation is partnering with GSK to oversee the grant.
