Building a Citizens Voice in Public Education in St. Louis

Over the past year, stakeholders in the St. Louis Public Schools have been engaged in constructive dialogue through the St. Louis Metropolitan Children's Agenda. Now, stakeholders are working together toward establishing a permanent vehicle for the ongoing engagement of the community - a public education coalition.

A public education involves a wide range of community members - both individuals and organizations - in joint efforts to support and improve public education. Such organizations work to both monitor and support the schools, working both independently of the schools and in cooperation with the schools. Most major cities across the country already have public education coalitions in place. For more information:

The momentum now to form a public education coalition in St. Louis began in fall 2006 when the Children's Agenda held eight community forums on public education. These forums attracted over 600 participants and were highly praised for their constructive and inclusive dialogue. Read a summary of the forums.
