The Regional Early Childhood Council is a public-private partnership comprised of early childhood education and wellness agencies, businesses, and child advocates. It was formed in February 2011. Since our inception, membership has grown to over 100 agencies, organizations and key individuals. In promoting early childhood development in the St. Louis region, the Council addresses a wide range of problems and needs resulting from a lack of attention to critical aspects of early childhood well-being. Included are a lack of school readiness among many young children, low quality and often unsafe child care, the need for pre-kindergarten programs, limited services for children with special needs and in Missouri outdated child care licensing regulations and a weak system of child care assistance. The primary work of the RECC is carried out through six program committees. Those committees are described in on the web page titled RECC Structure: Committees and Council Leadership. The Council also has a Governing and Steering Committee. The vision, mission, and current strategic initiatives being pursued by the RECC are outlined below. VisionAll young children in the St. Louis region are healthy, able to learn and develop essential skills so they succeed in life and our community prospers.
Mission/PurposeThe St. Louis Regional Early Childhood Council will build a comprehensive system that addresses the full range of early childhood needs for all St. Louis area children.
